Nicholas Barr!
Welcome to my profile! Let me start by saying thank you for
visiting. I have studied Japanese language and culture at California State University
Monterey Bay for my B.A. in Japanese. My interest in Japanese language and
culture first started at a young age when I was interested in the Power
Rangers. What really cemented my interest however was when I took my first
Japanese class. I choose to continue my study of Japanese at CSUMB because I
wanted the opportunity to go to Japan and gain a really in depth knowledge of
its culture and language.
Why study Japanese? At first I thought, well why not? I enjoy it and its fun. But as I got deeper into the Japanese program at CSUMB I realized that it was much more than just a hobby. After studying Japanese and seeing major growth I realized that it had become a passion. Truly, I love the Japanese Language and culture. The time I spent in Japan can honestly be said to be the best time of my life. Not just for the learning experience or even the new environment, but for the opportunity to really connect with people who are different from me. Studying Japanese has opened a whole new world to me. Being able to speak two languages is like holding a key that opens innumerable doors. I see my opportunities as endless moving into the future. First I plan to live in Japan and expand the way I see the world. I plan to stay in Japan for at least five years. Then, with the experience I gained there I plan to move back to America. My hope for the future is to internalize more of the Japanese culture and return to America with a better understanding of the world.
