Students develop communication strategies and cultural knowledge to prepare for advanced courses. Taught in Japanese.
Course Reflective Narrative:
In this class we were required to give many presentations in Japanese and demonstrate our knowledge of the each of the chapters we covered. This class fulfilled requirements set down by MLO 1, and MLO 2. We were demonstrating interpretive and presentational Japanese at an Intermediate to high level, and also went over specific cultural aspects of Japan as related to the topics we were studying in class. We learned about topics that were relevant to the grammar points kanji that we were learning at the time. By connecting cultural studies with grammar and composition studies the class was able to condense a lot of knowledge into itself. Because we were learning the structures and vocabulary about places or traditions in Japan we were also learning what we need to be able to discuss those same topics. At the bottom of the page is a link to some of the work I completed in this course. It is my thoughts on a story we read in the class called "Small darkness" written in Japanese. This course was very helpful in terms of continuing to contribute to my target language acquisition and allowed me to practice my Japanese in a presentational manner. Reading and writing being my weakest points in Japanese I would like to develop me kanji recognition more to make it easier for me to understand and communicate in Japanese. This class was a good bridge to upper division classes and as such I feel I need to remember the skills I learned in this class and apply them to my future classes and future career working in Japan.
